The Brahminical Arts

  • Daily worship ceremonies as practiced in India since ancient times, withlarge sacred images of Śrī Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa. Decorating, chanting of Vedichymns and mantras, classes in Vedic literature, and fire ceremonies (yajñas) for certain auspicious occasions.
  • Training in the brahminical standards of cleanliness and social etiquette.

Training in the above is accessible to all, with no consideration of race or creed, old or young, rich or poor. As Bhagavad Gītā states, there are three modes of material nature: sattva-guṇa (the mode of goodness), raja-guṇa (the mode of passion), and tama-guṇa (the mode of ignorance). Training in brahminical standards, according to the individual’s capacity for acceptance, raises them from tama-guṇa and its demoralizing, dehumanizing qualities to sattva-guṇa, where one experiences happiness, heightened awareness, and a service mood.

Vedic Education And Counseling

  • Spiritual coaching for adults, Sunday educational / fun activities for children.
  • In the temple and classrooms: daily morning and evening classes on the various aspects of bhakti—karma, reincarnation, mantra meditation, the soul’s identity and duties, the creation of the material and spiritual planetary systems, and the esoteric aspects as well.
  • Classes at house programs, yoga studios, universities and university clubs, and other public venues.
  • Online live classes in the various aspects of bhakti—as always, for beginners and the advanced—as well as pre-recorded classes by world teachers of bhakti, and audiobook recordings.
  • Classes and individual training on the values of a spiritually-based culture—human relations (with reference to modern books and communication skills programs such as “Non-violent Communication”and “7 Habits for Highly Effective People”)
  • Bhakti-related yoga training—āsanas, breathing techniques, and japa retreats.

We regularly perform kīrtana (sacred sound meditation in congregation)and sing bhajans (ancient classical hymns) with classical Indian musical instruments, both in our center and in public, but we so much wish to increase people’s opportunity for participation. Although accompanied by musical instruments and dance, and although entertaining and uplifting, kīrtana is not a “performance.” It is not for earning a livelihood. It is not meant for entertaining the public for a demonstration of arts. It is a dynamic devotional service.

Kīrtanas and bhajans are especially powerful for these times of quarrel, cruelty, and hypocrisy. We long to give more people the opportunity to be immersed in these timeless, transformational kīrtanas and bhajans, inSanskrit, Hindi, and Bengali.
