January 1 – 8, 2024

Happy New Year all of you Divine Souls!

So much has changed since the start of 2023. In August of 2023 the SVA Cultural Center (previously called Gaudiya Vedanta Outreach) moved from Hollywood to Miami’s famous Design District. We are hoping to expand the SVA preaching center, and the mercy of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His disciplic succession of mericful and powerful pure devotees even more in 2024.

We hope you’ll attend our programs and come by for reading, japa, prasadam and so on in this new year.

Reigning in the New Year with the Holy Name

Our SVA, Sacred Vedic Arts Cultural Center celebrated New Year’s Eve together by hitting the streets with Harinam. We walked from our temple to the prestigious Miami Design District to spread the Holy names. We want to give a shout out to the large and popular IGK Salon for inviting us to come and do kirtan in their store. As usual we had a great time dancing with the staff and customers. They made us feel so welcome.

After harinam, we returned to the temple for kirtan and an inspirational New Year’s Eve lecture by Syamarani didi, wherein she summarized Srila Gurudeva’s discourse on that subject some years ago.

She quoted Prabhupada saying, “Kirtan rasa is the safest situation in the material world.” We want to give a special thanks to Ishan Prabhu for the enchanting traditional Gaudiya Math kirtan. Two beautiful neighbors saw the kirtan, and followed us back to the temple. They wept with joy as they shared their experience. Mahaprabhu das cooked some scrumptious pizza made from scratch, and Subal sakha Jr. topped the night off with crackling fireworks.

Synergy Yoga

On New Year’s day, there was a program at Synergy Yoga with kirtan and prasadam. Mohini Dasi and Visvarupa led the heart-melting kirtan for a crowd of 20 people including guests and devotees. Victoria, Vicitri Dasi, the owner of Synergy, has been a consistent supporter of SVA. We thank her for always being willing to open up her beautiful space for speakers and kirtan. The proceeds were generously donated to SVA to assist in the feeding the underserved.

Transcendental Book Distribution

Babhru Das, Champakalata Dasi, and Meghambara Dasi went out on book distribution this week at Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. Babhru taught the girls how to distribute numerous. Afterwards they distributed rasgullas outside of the Grateful Dead concert, and all the music enthusiasts were thrilled to receive the sweets.

Dressing Thakurji

At the top of the Newsletter there is always a picture of our deities Sri Radha Raman Bihari. Every week they get dressed and bathed by some of the girls here at SVA. We receive direct guidance from Srimati Syamarani Didi to make the proper adjustments on their outfits for Their pleasure. The whole process takes about 4-5 hours. Here are some photos of our small deities, who were lovingly dressed by Krishna Mayi Dasi, who is visiting us from California.

Notable Sevak

We would like to acknowledge one of our community members this week who has an outstanding seva mood. We want to recognize Radha Govinda for his enthusiasm to tackle jobs like taking out the trash, breaking down boxes, power washing the sidewalks, and leaf blowing the grounds. We know we can call on him to do the dirty jobs no one else is brave enough to do. And he is especially expert at using essential oil blends to leave spaces smelling fresh. Thanks for all your service prabhu!

A Call for Action

Some of our vital team members who live here at SVA have left for the holidays and we are a bit desperate for some extra hands to help with cooking, kitchen prep, cleaning, organization, yard maintenance, flower garland making, pujari services, chanting and dancing at kirtans, and more.

Please contact Vasanti (347-727-8692) or Champak (617-230-7437) to inquire about services.
