This week was filled with deep immersion in the transcendental pastimes of Sri Krishna, joyful reunions, and enthusiastic public chanting.
Devotees were blessed with profound daily classes on Govardhana-lila, welcomed back a beloved member of the community, and shared the Holy Name with the public during festive World Cup and Fourth of July celebrations.
Monday–Friday
Daily Govardhana-lila Classes
Throughout the week, devotees had the rare opportunity to hear Akilesh Prabhu from Australia speak each morning on the glorious Govardhana-lila, one of the most beloved pastimes of Sri Krishna. Drawing from Gopala Campu, the celebrated work of Srila Jiva Goswami, he vividly described how seven-year-old Sri Krishna lifted Govardhana Hill for seven days to lovingly protect the residents of Vrindavan from the devastating storm sent by Indra.
Akilesh Prabhu is a senior disciple in the line of Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami Maharaja, a former president of the temple in Georgia, and spent many years serving as one of Srila Gurudeva’s trusted translators. He has assisted with numerous books and lectures and is currently working alongside Srimati Syamarani Didi on the English translation of Srila Gurudeva’s Hindi commentary on Brihad Bhagavatamrita, the first great theological work composed by Srila Sanatana Goswami, one of the Six Goswamis of Vrindavan.
His heartfelt presentations brought the residents of Vrindavan and Sri Krishna’s loving exchanges vividly to life, leaving everyone inspired by the Lord’s unlimited affection for His devotees.
Tuesday
Serving Our Unhoused Neighbors
On Tuesday, devotees continued Sacred Vedic Arts’ weekly outreach by distributing freshly prepared plant-based sanctified meals (prasadam) to our unhoused neighbors throughout the community. More than simply providing nourishment, the distribution offered an opportunity to share kindness, friendship, and the spiritual mercy of Krishna through food prepared and offered with devotion. Each meal served as a reminder that compassion and loving service are at the heart of bhakti.
Thursday
World Cup Harinam
As excitement filled the city during the World Cup festivities, devotees took to the streets for a vibrant harinam, filling the atmosphere with the joyful chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra. Many visitors and locals paused to listen, dance, and receive the uplifting vibrations of the Holy Name, demonstrating that spiritual joy transcends all nationalities and backgrounds.
Friday
Sweet Reunion at Friday Night Kirtan
Friday evening’s kirtan was made even more special with the return of our dear godbrother Madhusudan Prabhu, who recently arrived back from India. One of the most senior brahmacaris in our ashram, Madhusudan Prabhu has been serving Sacred Vedic Arts since its early days as GVO in Hollywood. His steady dedication and years of service have touched countless lives, and the community was delighted to welcome him home. He plans to remain with us until October or November, so be sure to come by, offer your greetings, and spend time in his association.
Adding to the festive mood, everyone enjoyed a delicious soft-serve dessert featuring maple ice cream topped with whipped yogurt and honey—a sweet conclusion to an evening of kirtan, friendship, and devotional association.
As crowds gathered to celebrate, devotees joyfully shared the timeless gift of the Holy Name through singing, dancing, and book distribution.
Saturday
Fourth of July World Cup Harinam
The weekend concluded with another energetic public harinam during the Fourth of July celebrations. As crowds gathered to celebrate, devotees joyfully shared the timeless gift of the Holy Name through singing, dancing, and book distribution. The colorful procession reminded everyone that the greatest freedom is found in awakening our eternal relationship with Sri Krishna.
